CHANA DAL/CHENAGA PAPPU CHUTNEY
INGREDIENTS::
Chana dal/chenaga pappu 1/4 cup
Red chilies 3
Garlic cloves 2
Tamarind extract 1 tsp
Salt as needed
FOR TEMPERING::
Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
Red chilly 1
Curry leaves 1 sprig
PROCEDURE::
1) Heat oil in a pan, add the chana dal . Fry until they turn color. Don't burn them.
Keep aside and cool them.
2)Now add cumin seeds, garlic cloves and red chilies to the oil. Saute for 1 minute.
keep aside and cool them along with the chana dal.
3)Grind fried chana dal, red chilies, garlic cloves , salt and tamarind extract into smooth paste adding water little by little. This chutney needs more water for grinding as the dal will absorb more water and the chutney dries out very fast.
4)Now do the tempering by heating the oil, add the mustard seeds let them splutter, then add the cumin seeds, red chilly and curry leaves. Cool down the tempering and then add it to the chutney.
