Tomatoes                             4 big
Chana dal                             1 tbsp
Red chilies                           3-4(adjust accordingly)
Garlic cloves                        2

Tamarind paste                     1 tsp(optional)                          
Oil                                         2 tsp
Salt                                       as needed

Oil                                        1 tsp
Mustard seeds                      1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds                         1/2 tsp
Red chilies                            1
Curry leaves                         1 sprig

1) Heat 1 tsp of oil then add the chana dal ,garlic and red chilies.
Saute in medium flame until the red chilies and chana dal change in color.
Keep aside and let them cool down.
2) Heat 1 tsp of oil and then add the tomato pieces .
Let them cook until they become mushy about 5-6 minutes.
Turn off heat and keep them aside.

3)Once they cool down add salt and grind them into fine chutney.
Add tamarind paste if need ( if you prefer tangy then you can add tamarind or else skip this step)
Heat oil in a pan,add mustard once it splutters add cumin seeds,red chilies and curry leaves.
Saute till red chilies change color .
Add the tempering to the chutney.

Serve the chutney with idly or dosa...
